Wheeling back to the Santos trails this weekend is the Santos Fat Tire Festival and Bike Expo. Beginning Friday, March 7th, the Santos Trails along the Cross Florida Greenway will be the epicenter of the largest Bike Expo in Florida and the Southeast. With over 40 companies bringing bike collections and setting up vendor booths, there will be something for bike enthusiasts of all ages.
The event runs on Friday (12pm-5pm), Saturday (9am to 5pm), and concludes on Sunday (9am-2pm). Camping at the Santos Campground is already sold out and will only be available to ticket holders who have prearranged their stay. The Festival will feature mountain bike races, skills classes, and guided rides and cycling clinics put on by Take Aim Cycling. Maps will be provided for a one mile and three mile loops, and helmets are required of all riders. The main event takes place on Sunday at 9:30am and again at 11am, as GoneRiding hosts the first SERC mountain bike race of the festival. Sunday also features a special “trials style” show at noon.
The entire event is free and open to the public. Vendor booths and food trucks will be available for visitors to stop in at and find whatever bike related merchandise they might be looking for. Specially marked raffle baskets will be located at different booths, each valued at at least $250. Funds raised from these raffles go towards the OMBA’s (Ocala Mountain Bike Association’s) Bikes for Kids Programs, which provide for youth locally around the holidays. The raffle drawings are held at 1pm on Sunday, and participants don’t have to be present to claim their prizes.
