Christmas time in Ocala and Marion County is a very special time. The city and county come alive with lights, singing, religious activities and of course, Santa makes his arrival in a number of parades around the county.
Ocala and Marion County despite–or maybe because of—our growth has worked hard to maintain a small town atmosphere. Nothing shows that better than our annual “Light Up Ocala”. For almost 30 years, downtown Ocala has been lighting up in all of its splendor. Each year seems to bring something new; lights, events and at times, attractions.
The lights themselves should be more than enough to amaze and awe the child in each of us. Nearly 80,000 lights help to turn the downtown square into a dazzling Winter Wonderland, without the snow of course. This is topped off by a very large (over 40 feet tall) Christmas tree. The tree is covered with—you guessed it—more lights.
Light Up Ocala is just one of the many Christmas time traditions in the area. It will be held on November 19th this year and kicks off the holiday season.
