Winners of the 24th Annual Young Artist Competition

Screen shot 2015-02-03 at 10.42.56 AMThe Ocala Symphony Orchestra is announcing the winners of the 24th Annual Young Artist Competition. The Junior Division Winner is xylophonist Adam Langs, age 12, from Lake Mary, FL. Langs performed Fantasy on Japanese Wood Prints, Op. 211 by Alan Hovhaness. The Senior Division Winner is clarinetist Brandon Mosley, age 21, from Jacksonville, FL. Mosley performed Concerto for Clarinet, Strings, and Harp by Aaron Copland.

Sixty-one students auditioned for the nation-wide competition held on Saturday, Jan. 31. Out of the 61 students, seven finalists were chosen to perform on the Finals Recital that was held on Sunday, Feb. 1. The seven finalists included:

Junior Division

BoFei Wang, piano
Age 14 from Palm Harbor, FL

Adam Langs, Xylophone
Age 12 from Lake Mary, FL

Erin Kim, violin
Age 14 from Tallahassee, FL

Senior Division 

Christopher Sacco, soprano saxophone
Age 22 from Tallahassee, FL

Brandon Mosley, clarinet
Age 21 from Jacksonville, FL

Cody Roseboom, double bass
Age 21 from Orlando, FL

Chen Liang, piano
Age 23 from Boca Raton, FL

The winners will go on to perform live with the Ocala Symphony Orchestra on the subscription concert “The Fountain of Youth” on Saturday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 8 at 3 p.m. The performances will be held at Ocala Breeders’ Sales Auditorium, 1701 SW 60th Ave. In addition to these talented young soloists, the full force of the orchestra will usher in Easter with Rimsky-Korsakov’s powerful Russian Easter Overture.
