What’s up at The Florida Horse Park?
The Florida Horse Park is an increasingly popular destination for family tourism. It offers hundreds of miles of riding trails that wind around the lush Florida Greenway. The park also offers an exciting schedule of world-class events drawing in top competitors and spectators from every horse sport discipline. Florida Horse Park is a 500-acre facility in South Ocala, which operates through event income and private donations. Trail rides, horse competitions, polo and many other activities have boosted the park’s presence.
The park was created by the state in 1996 and began operations in 2005. Since opening the park, the park has raised more that $5 million dollars in private donations.
In May of 2013, the park received a grant of $2 million dollars, which was approved by the Legislature and Florida Governor Rick Scott. On February 28th, 2014, seventeen tandem trucks delivered the last of the pillars and the roof for the covered arena. News is the park will be unveiling the new covered arena in July 2014.
Rumors are the park will be receiving another 2 million dollars towards the completion of the parks expansion; nothing is confirmed yet. The expansion plans include 800-1,000 horse stalls, eight show rings, a camping/RV area with 300 sites, a covered arena and air-conditioned multi-use facility with seating for 3,000.
When the park reaches completion, it is estimated that the facility will create a $75 million annual economic impact and 1,228 new jobs for Florida. These much needed jobs will be in areas such as construction, maintenance, security, event staff, concessions, retail, administration and marketing. The Florida Horse Park is proactive to keep jobs in Ocala. The new job opportunities will increase the financial viability for local businesses in the Ocala area. This venue, with the assistance of our community and the State of Florida is creating a large-scale economic impact for the state. For window or gutter cleaning in Wimbledon click here.
